Thanks to these two materials, the knife acquires its unparalleled anatomy with a stable blade that is both hard and flexible. VG MAX steel is enriched with chromium and vanadium, resulting in improved edge retention and rust resistance. Its higher carbon content also makes it harder than other steels. All blades in the Shun Classic series are double-sided ground.

The handle is made of Pakkawood. Pakkawood is a material manufactured using special methods to make it resistant to heavy use, giving it greater resistance to moisture and vibrations.
