Cleaning stone that can be used for any Japanese sharpening stone. It is used when wet. This is a coarser stone somewhat similar to the Nagura stone. It is made of white aluminum oxide.

Water stones The Naniwa Nagura Dressing Stone is an optional stone used for cleaning and refreshing the surface of a sharpening stone. During sharpening, the useless metal removed from the blade can accumulate on the stone's surface. If not removed, this buildup can significantly slow down the sharpening action of a stone.

By using a Nagura cleaning stone, it is possible to clean the surface of a water stone without removing as much material as a more "aggressive" flattening stone would. This is useful when your stone needs cleaning but not flattening.

Soak before use For best results, the cleaning stone should be soaked for several minutes until fully saturated before use. While your water stone is wet, rub the cleaning stone on the surface of the water stone until the surface is clean and free from the dark marks left by sharpening. Rinse both the water stone and the cleaning stone well.
