The bunka knife is a Japanese general-purpose kitchen knife, highly popular for its versatility. It combines the classic chef’s knife with the Santoku knife, bringing together the best features of both.

A blade that stands out The blade of the knife is made of Damascus stainless steel, renowned for centuries for its sharpness and durability, as well as the distinctive "waves" that give each knife a truly unique appearance. More specifically, the blade’s core is composed of the innovative Japanese stainless steel alloy VG10, known for its hardness due to the cobalt it contains, surrounded by unique layers of Damascus steel, further enhancing the hardness and strength of the knife. Each knife in the series is hand-sharpened by experienced Japanese craftsmen on both sides at a 15° angle, so you receive a perfectly sharp knife.

Comfortable ebony wood handle The first part of the knife you come into contact with is the handle. The octagonal handle of this handmade knife provides a warm and comfortable grip that only wood can offer, while the bolster that connects the blade to the handle is made from buffalo horn. The handle is crafted from ebony wood, a hard and durable timber. Its octagonal shape makes it comfortable and practical to use from every angle, allowing you to maneuver the sharp blade precisely as you wish.

Master of Blades recommends that you wipe and dry these knives very thoroughly after each use to avoid any moisture. For the same reason, it is a good idea to wrap it in newspaper when not in use. Regardless of the knife, at some point it will need sharpening. Knives made from hard steel (high Rockwell), like Japanese ones—especially if sharpened on one side—should be sharpened exclusively with a whetstone to ensure the best possible sharpening while also protecting the blade, so it continues to deliver top-level performance.
